Give yourself to the service of our Lord in the world

Just think, there are so many men and women on earth, and the Master does not fail to call every single one. He calls them to a Christian life, to a life of holiness, to a chosen life, to life eternal. (The Forge, 13)

The Church wishes Pope Francis Happy Birthday; Card. Oswald Recalls Mother Teresa

Mumbai (AsiaNews): The President of the Bishops Conference and Archbishop of Bombay Cardinal  Oswald Gracias, offered prayers to the Lord "to grant the Holy Father health, wisdom and grace , to continue to lead the Church and be an inspiration to us all." This week he will celebrate a Mass in the house of Mumbai for abandoned children, opened by the founder of the Missionaries of Charity.

Cardinal Oswald  is one of the eight cardinals chosen by the Pope as advisors on Curia reforms. "What Pope Francis says – the Cardinal said - is an echo of the life, work and message of Mother Teresa. He is satiating the thirst for Christ, and I am sure the Mother from Heaven is smiling, and together with the Indian Church wish him a happy birthday".
Today Cardinal Gracias will recite a prayer with all the priests of the diocese. This week he will visit Asha Daan ( "Gift of Hope" ) , the home founded by Mother Teresa in Mumbai for abandoned children. Here he will preside over a special Mass in honour of the Pope. Today the home houses 75 children - cared for by the Missionaries of Charity - along with over 400 men and women dying and ill with HIV. Finally, on December 21 also at Shanti Avedna Sadan , India's first hospice for the terminally ill , a special ceremony for the Pope's birthday will be celebrated.

(Forja, 345)

Faith is taking the fist step

Faith quote via Living Life at www.Facebook.com/LivingLife2TheFull

We will always tend to be selfish

Don't keep on talking about your health, your family name, your career, your work, or your next step... How annoying this can be! It would seem you have forgotten that you don't have anything, that everything is His. (The Forge, 1050)

We should let our Lord get involved in our lives, admitting him confidently, removing from his way any obstacles or complications. We tend to be on the defensive, to be attached to our selfishness. We always want to be top dog, even if it’s only to be on top of our wretchedness. That is why we must go to Jesus, so that he will make us truly free. Only then will we be able to serve God and all men…

Let us be forewarned, then, for we will always tend to be selfish, and this temptation can occur in many ways. God wants us to show our faith when we obey, for he doesn’t express his will with drums and trumpets. Sometimes he suggests his wishes in a whisper, deep in our conscience; and we must listen carefully to recognize his voice and be faithful. (Christ is passing by, 17)

People have recognized in Pope Francis an authentic priest

An extensive interview with the Prelate of Opus Dei published on December 15 in Milan's "Corriere della Sera," the best-selling Italian daily.

"Pope Francis is helping the whole world to give priority to the culture of being, of life, in contrast to the culture of having that sometimes suffocates the more economically developed societies. And he speaks about sanctity in ordinary life: a woman who cares for her children, a man who works to put bread on the table, the sick. The western world needs to rediscover this type of sanctity. It’s not a path for a privileged few: it’s an invitation that our Lord addresses to all men and women. In countries with a Christian tradition, Opus Dei (through its activities for spiritual formation) offers a path for rediscovering the faith in the midst of one’s daily occupations. This is what the New Evangelization means: to re-enkindle in Christians (who sometimes see themselves as such only because of their cultural context) the flame of a living and personal relationship with God."

14/12/2013 Pope Francis (@Pontifex): the future is in God’s hands

This is Christian hope: that the future is in God’s hands.

Pope Francis ()

The Lord uses us as torches

We are children of God, bearers of the only flame that can light up the paths of the earth for souls, of the only brightness which can never be darkened, dimmed or overshadowed. The Lord uses us as torches, to make that light shine out. Much depends on us; if we respond many people will remain in darkness no longer, but will walk instead along paths that lead to eternal life. (The Forge, 1)

Iesus Christus, Deus homo: Jesus Christ, God‑man. This is one of “the mighty works of God” [1], which we should reflect upon and thank him for. He has come to bring “peace on earth to men of good Will” [2], to all men who want to unite their wills to the holy will of God — not just the rich, not just the poor, but everyone: all the brethren. We are all brothers in Jesus, children of God, brothers of Christ. His Mother is our mother.

There is only one race in the world: the race of the children of God. We should all speak the same language, taught us by our Father in heaven — the language Jesus spoke with his Father. It is the language of heart and mind, which you are using now, in your prayer — the language of contemplation, used by men who are spiritual, because they realize they are children of God. This language is expressed in a thousand motions of our will, in the clear insights of our minds, in the affections of our heart, in our commitment to lead a virtuous life, in goodness, happiness and peace.(Christ is passing by, 13)

Pope Francis throws the doors of the Church wide open

Trying to sum up the 50,000 words in a few phrases, I would say his message is: "The Gospel really is good news especially for the poor and anyone who takes seriously the sufferings of the world. The church doors are open to everyone. We are not a ghetto. We engage with the world and have something to say. Get out there. Do something to help your neighbor. Do it joyfully. Do it with passion. The Church is here to help, not to hinder. Church teachings won't be changing any time soon. But don't expect Rome to have all the answers. Don't be afraid to make mistakes. And do something to change the unjust economic structures of the world."

(Forja, 618).

EVANGELII GAUDIUM (4) - Let us never give up!

I invite all Christians, everywhere, at this very moment, to a renewed personal encounter with Jesus Christ, or at least an openness to letting him encounter them; I ask all of you to do this unfailingly each day. No one should think that this invitation is not meant for him or her, since “no one is excluded from the joy brought by the Lord”.1 The Lord does not disappoint those who take this risk; whenever we take a step towards Jesus, we come to realize that he is already there, waiting for us with open arms. Now is the time to say to Jesus: “Lord, I have let myself be deceived; in a thousand ways I have shunned your love, yet here I am once more, to renew my covenant with you. I need you. Save me once again, Lord, take me once more into your redeeming embrace”. How good it feels to come back to him whenever we are lost! Let me say this once more: God never tires of forgiving us; we are the ones who tire of seeking his mercy. Christ, who told us to forgive one another “seventy times seven” (Mt 18:22) has given us his example: he has forgiven us seventy times seven. Time and time again he bears us on his shoulders. No one can strip us of the dignity bestowed upon us by this boundless and unfailing love. With a tenderness which never disappoints, but is always capable of restoring our joy, he makes it possible for us to lift up our heads and to start anew. Let us not flee from the resurrection of Jesus, let us never give up, come what will. May nothing inspire more than his life, which impels us onwards!

EVANGELII GAUDIUM (3) - The great danger in today’s world

The great danger in today’s world, pervaded as it is by consumerism, is the desolation and anguish born of a complacent yet covetous heart, the feverish pursuit of frivolous pleasures, and a blunted conscience. Whenever our interior life becomes caught up in its own interests and concerns, there is no longer room for others, no place for the poor. God’s voice is no longer heard, the quiet joy of his love is no longer felt, and the desire to do good fades. This is a very real danger for believers too. Many fall prey to it, and end up resentful, angry and listless. That is no way to live a dignified and fulfilled life; it is not God’s will for us, nor is it the life in the Spirit which has its source in the heart of the risen Christ.

3. O último ponto: Deus é a nossa força.

Ele é a nossa força!

Amen.

* * *
